Introduction
Physicians for Social Responsibility, Nepal, (PSRN) which was
originally known as Health Professional for Social Responsibility,
Nepal (HPSRN), was established in 1986 with the aim of working
in the field of healthcare and health service by disseminating
the ideas or information related to people. It was baptised by
a team of dedicated, experienced and qualified doctors and health
workers. Prof. Mathura Prasad Shrestha, Dr. Arjun Karki including
eight other doctors participated in the World Congress of International
Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War, ( IPPNW), of the Colon
Conference which was held in Germany in 1986.
First, it was registered under the Company Act in 1988. After
that it was registered in the Chief District Office, Kathmandu
in 1991.
The objectives of the organisation:
a. to aware the public about the health problems.
b. to plan, implement and participate in the assessment of the
programme related to the health service at national level.
c. To make people able to participate in the different areas of
health services i.e. prevention, cure of diseases etc.
d. To establish the brotherly and harmonious relation with various
social and professional organisations for the development of physical,
mental and social development of the people.
e. To function to unite the nation by informing the public about
the disasters created/ caused by nuclear war, the competition
for storing nuclear, biological and chemical war and exploitation.
