District
visit
Dr. Arun Dixit and Dr. Gopal Khanal had visited the Western
part of the country from 2nd, January 2007 to 7th
Jan. 2007. They organised the talk programmes with the physicians
and explain the activities of the PSRN. They discussed on the
present situation of the country. On January 26, 2007 Dr.
Dixit and Dr. Khanal visited the eastern part of the country
from 26th jan. to 3rd March 2007. they held
series of meetings with the elderly and new members
of the psrn and they informed about the visit of our guest Mr
Klas and Dr. Martini in Nepal.They explain them about all the
activities which took place during their stay in Kathmandu.
Recreational
Journey To Banepa, Dhulikhel and Panauti
A health
check up programme was organized for the elderly people living
in the Pashupati Vriddha Aashram (Elderly home) on July 22, 2006.
Around 100 people got benefited from the programme, who were seen
by senior physicians, surgeons, young doctors and nurses. Some
medicines were also distributed in free. Following health check
up they were taken to the different religious temples, historical
and peaceful sites of Kavre district about 50 km away from the
Kathmandu city.

61st Hiroshima Day
A programme was organized in Kathmandu
at Gurukul Theatre with the slogan “Let's Abolish War and
Its Causes” on 6th August 2006. Doctors, medical
and public health students, writers, poets, singers, journalists
were invited in the programme to spread the message of peace and
the devastating “never ending” effects of nuclear
weapons urging all to join their voices for the total abolition
of nuclear weapons and other forms of conflicts from the world.
Kiyoko Ogura, a Japanese journalist, who has been working in Nepal
for many years, recollected historical prospect of second
world war and highlighted the consequences and suffering
of Japanese people from the bombing over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Many recited peace poems, some sang peace songs and few speakers
delivered their speech on the occasion .
Interaction with foreign journalists and writer
John Mage, an Editorial Member of Monthly Review, and Bernard
Dimello, editer of Economic and Political Weekly, came to Nepal
and interacted with physicians and students of PSRN, writers,
editors, political analysts and intellectuals. Mr. Mage explained
his Montly Review from historical perspective and Mr. Dimello
described EPW (Economic and Political Weekly) and special issue
to be published. Famous South Asian writer Thomas J. Mathew expressed

Regional Activity
The
Physicians Dr. Saroj Dhital, Dr. Somnath Arjyal and Dr. Biswa
Raj Joshi of PSRN actively participated in 18th World Congress
Preparatory Meeting organised by IDPD and held in Delhi, India
on 13-14 January. The meeting postulated the picture for the upcoming
World Congress.
Three physicians
along with Six medical students (two girls and four boys) were
sent to India on the occasion of 61st Hiroshima day
on August 6, 2006. They interact and share their activities and
foster IPPNW activities in this region in a more collective
way

| "A Theory of Global
Health" |
A discussion
programme entitled "A Theory of Global Health" was organized
by PSRN on 15th November,2007.A paper presentation was displayed
by doctor Stephen Benzruchca.
At the presence of Doctors and paramedics an extensive discussion
was conducted.President Prof. MathuraPrasad Shrestha of PSRN,Seniour
Vice President Dr. Saroj Dhital including General Secretary Dr.
Sharad Onta presented their views. |

| "Participation
in 19th World Congress" |
| The
19th World congress is going to be held at New Delhi,India On March
9-11, 2008 which will be jointly organized by IDPD and IPPNW. A
group of Doctors and Students will be participating during this
programme from Nepal.In reference to this, PSR-Nepal has already
supported financially for this programme |

| "World AIDS Day" |
| Physician
for Social Responsibility, Nepal (PSRN) had celebrated World AIDS
Day on 1st December 2007, under the theme "TAKE THE LEAD".A
discussion programme was held for the prevention of HIV/ AIDS. The
doctors and members from the various NGO's had equally shown their
participation. The programme was organized by Dr. Arun Dixit ( Treasurer
of PSRN ).

Heath Camp |
A
Free Health Camp was organised PSRN and supported by ManMohan Memorial
Hospital on 19th May 2007 in Tokha, Kathmandu. More than three hundred
local patients including elderly and children were given helath
service and distributed medicine. Dr. Banshidhar Mishra, Dr. Gupta
Bahadur Shrestha, Dr. Arun Dixit, Dr. Pradip Gyawali, Dr. Ujla Shrestha
and Dr. Achyut Karki contributed in the programme.
PSR-Nepal Participation on the IPPNW World Congress
Physician for Social Responsibility, Nepal exhibited an overwhelming
participation in the 18th World Congress of IPPNW held in New Delhi,
India, on 9th – 11th, 2008. A group of nine doctors led by
the senior vice president Dr Saroj Dhital participated in different
plenary sessions and workshops about Nuclear weapons, Small Arms
and World peace. The medical students and the doctors including
Dr Mahesh Maskey actively participated in the South Asia regional
meeting to discuss their role in meeting IPPNW targets for peace
and development in the region. A large group of thirty seven medical,
nursing and public health students from different colleges in Nepal,
including ten female, showed their active participation in the IPPNW
Student Congress held
on 7th and 8th March and the peace march prior to the world congress.
Ten students also joined the campaign against Nukes and for peace
through the peace March from Amritsar to Delhi. Participants from
PSRN Student Chapter conducted a workshop on "Migration of
Human Resources for Health". A presentation on "An Overview
on Small Arms Violence" was also made, emphasizing on the public
health approach to prevention of small arms violence. Nepalese participants
returned with the glory of remarkable achievements in the world
congress. Dr Khagendra Bikram Dahal, after successfully completing
two terms of ISR, was elected as the youngest ever board member
of IPPNW. Mr Chudamani Giri was elected as the Regional Student
Representative of South Asia Region. Mr Abhinav Acharya took the
responsibility of editing the student publication of IPPNW student
publication e-pulse. Along with the reputation of the third largest
participation in the world congress of IPPNW, PSRN Students bagged
the best poster award in the exhibition entitled "Peace, Health
and development".
Seminar cum workshop on Migration of Human Resources for
Health
Student Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Nepal (PSRN)
conducted a one day national level seminar cum workshop program
on “human resources for health migration” in Learning
Realm International (LRI) School, Kalanki, Kathmandu on February
9, 2008. The participants were about 110 medical and allied health
science students, with about 40 female participants from different
colleges of Nepal including Institute of medicine, Maharajgunj Campus,
Ayurveda Campus, Maharajganj Nursing Campus, People Dental College,
Nepal Institute of Health Sciences, Hope International College and
Nepal Medical College.
The objectives of the program were: 1. Analysis of distribution
of health manpower in developing countries like Nepal, in both national
and international perspectives. 2. Understanding different dimensions
of migration of human resources for health in terms of magnitude,
causes and effects. 3. Encourage participants to explore steps to
mitigate the harmful effects of human resources for health migration,
especially in the developing countries.
Prof. Dr. Ramesh Kanta Adhikari, former dean of Institute of Medicine
presented the expert paper, thereby giving the audience an overall
impression on migration of human resources for health focusing mainly
on the issues faced in Nepal. Dr. Sarad Onta, General Secretary
of PSR-Nepal, expressed his views on “Brain Drain” and
the “migration and mobility” of Health manpower along
with the moral liabilities and ethical issues involved.
Documentation and Publication
One thousand copies of the magazine ‘Spirit’
had been published on March, 2008 and were distributed to the medical
community. The Spirit was also distributed in the 18th World Congress
of IPPNW in Delhi for the participants from all over the world.
Talk Programme In Gorkha
With the aim to raise public awareness in health, the PSRN had held one day talk programme in Gorkha, about 150km west to Kathmandu, at Sarswati Higher Secondary school on June14th 2008. Teachers and Head teacher of the school, acquainted with the problems regarding health that has been prevailed in the district. In reference to this, they said that the agony of people is that, they do not get sufficient medicines and devoid of specialist and doctors in the district. The members of the organization also provided information on the activities of PSRN. They also introduced IPPNW, as an International Physician organization for the prevention of nuclear war and a recipient of Noble peace prize in 1985, to which PSRN is affiliated and informed the role of it in establishing peace and prosperity.
A health camp was also organized at the school premises. As many as 15 people including doctors, paramedics, non-medical and 4 female students had participated in the free health camp from the organization. Dr. Premal Kumar Joshi (ENT Surgeon), Dr. Pravin Pradhan (Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon) and Dr. Arun Dixit (Medical Co-coordinator Manmohan Memorial Hospital) examined 300 patients during the period. In
Addition to this, they gave counseling for maintain proper health and provided free medicines, too.
Health check-up during election -2008
On 10th April, 2008 at Sorakhutte in Kathmandu, PSRN had held a one day free health camp. The health camp mainly focused on the election in for Constituent Assembly in Nepal. Lying the possibilities of no. of accidents, wounds, riots and disputes, a team of Doctors, Specialist, paramedics, nurses and volunteers had pre-prepared themselves in service. The camp consisted a total of 23 volunteers, among them11 were female. In reference to this, Manmohan M. Hospital had helped by providing free Ambulance service. Thankfully, no any serious cases were reported during the period. The voters were mostly advantaged by the service. As many as 103 people received free health service. People suffering from Hypertension, DM, COPD, APD, Arthritis, Pneumonia, Diarrhea, Eye infection etc, were treated in health check-up.
The health camp which was conducted at 7AM continued 12 hrs. The patients received free medicines.
